The Best Fat Burner In The Whole Entire World!!

It is getting closer to that time of the year when we all will be looking for that next new ground breaking fat burning formula that totally incinerates body fat, ramps up metabolism and crushes appetite.  Take it for a week and BAM…we are swimsuit ready.   Ok ok, I am kidding obviously.  Unless of course old faithful Ephedrine was legal then it would be possible but those days are gone. So really, what fat burner is the best? Well that depends on a wide variety of aspects specific to the person.  Age, goals, current weight, medications, diet and exercise routine.  Let’s just assume that this person is a female that is 30 years old and wants to lose 15 lbs.  Current weight is let’s say 150 lbs and takes no medication with really no eating pattern, just whatever, whenever and lots of salads with non-fat dressing, fruits and nuts for snacks randomly through out the day.  Exercises all the time!  So what’s the problem?  She works her butt of in the gym and barely eats anything with no results to show besides frustration of not meeting her goals.  She also complains of highs and lows of energy through out the day and relies on energy drinks to get her through the day.  So after further evaluation we roughly figure out she is eating between 800-1000 calories per day.  Most of the calories are coming from carbohydrates and fats and minimal protein.  Does this sound familiar to anyone? So let’s do some calculating using the Harris Benedict BMR Calculator (Harris Benedict). Women: BMR = 655 + ( 4.35 x weight in... read more

Sleep as an appetite suppressant

Sleep Much?!?! Well, we all know that people say getting a good night sleep is very very important.  But why?  Let’s just look at one aspect as there are numerous benefits. “Research tells the story. A study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that when people were starved of sleep, late-night snacking increased, and they were more likely to choose high-carbohydrate snacks. A second study found that sleeping too little prompts people to eat bigger portions of all foods, increasing weight gain. And in a review of 18 studies, researchers found that a lack of sleep led to increased cravings for energy-dense, high-carbohydrate foods.” (Full article here – WebMD) So why the increase in appetite?  There are 2 hormones acting against us when we are in this tired state.  Ghrelin, ‘Hunger Hormone’ is higher in people associated with less sleep.  Ghrelin increases fat storage, stimulates hunger and the result of that is an increase in food intake. The other hormone is called Leptin.  Leptin is essentially responsible for telling us we are full after we have had enough food.  But leptin levels are decreased when we get less sleep.  So our brain does not get the cue that we are full so we keep eating. So the one hormone tells us we are hungry and then the other hormone doesn’t tell us to stop eating…scary combination. Moral of the story…SLEEP! Joel Jansen B.S.
